❌”Comment Allez-Vous ?” + What to Say Instead

If you’ve studied French in school, what you learned is probably way too formal for everyday use and it might sound like you’re reading a textbook!

At least, that’s what happened to me when I started learning French 14+ years ago. Everything I said was so formal!

In school I learned:

Comment allez-vous ? - how’re you?

But it’s really not a very common thing to say in French. It sounds more natural in most cases to say:

Vous allez bien ? - literally: you are doing well?

Check out this video I made recently where a native speaker uses this!

Also notice how he uses on instead of nous, since nous is almost never used in conversational French (as a subject).

J’espère que ça vous aide ! N’hésitez pas si vous avez des questions
