When to Use Bien or Bon ?? 🧐

Bonjour !

Here is a really simple explanation for when to use bien or bon en français

Usually you use bien when referring to an experience or an action. I mostly use it and hear it used in these 2 ways:

C’est bien - that’s great, that’s nice, etc

C’est pas bien ! (ce n’est pas
) - That’s not good ! Don’t do that, etc

It’s also an adverb:

C’était vraiment bien fait - It was really well done

I like to think of bon as usually being attached to something.

Un bon gĂąteau - A good cake

Un bon acteur - a good acteur

Or even something that I’m consuming, like food:

C’était trop bon - It was too good, really good, etc

I hope that helps you!! Remember, language learning is really about simplifying things if you’re a beginner. You don’t want to worry about too many things at once !! Get some basics down and then practice the language with someone.

We also have a video you can check out if you’d like to see some more examples

And if you need help making lasting progress in the language, you can work 1-on-1 with me! I’m usually fully booked but I can add you to the waitlist.
