❌Stop Learning So Many New French Words 😓🇫🇷
Bonjour !
A lot of French students spend so much time learning new words and expressions, but they never learn how to actually use them in conversation.
If you’re at a beginner or intermediate level, it would be better to learn vocabulary and phrases that are relevant to your life and then spend more time practicing using what you learned (watch this video if you need help finding someone to practice French with), as opposed to just learning as many random new words and expressions as possible.
Par exemple, one of my private students was telling me they were watching a video on cooking terms in French, yet I know they don’t really like to cook. Together we deduced that it’s highly unlikely they’re ever going to use that vocabulary in real life, so learning those words as a beginner would be a waste of time (but when that person gets a lot better and is looking to really master the language, then that would be a good time to learn that kind of vocabulary).
Par contre, I have another client who is currently studying French cuisine in Paris, so I made sure he learned as much cooking vocabulary as possible since it was relevant to his life.
To learn French most effectively, be sure to:
Learn what’s relevant to your life (this is very personal and different for everybody)
*Practice using what you learn as much as possible
*There are so many ways to practice French and I help my clients find the most fun and practical ways to do this. Some like to read articles and blogs, others practice with friends online (watch this video if you need help finding someone to practice with), others like to journal, etc. It’s all about doing what you enjoy in French and making the language work for you!
I hope you found that helpful! Feel free to reach out on Instagram if you have any questions!
À bientôt !
